Window Cleaning FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
I have been cleaning windows for about 30 years, both residential and commercial, and people have questions. Over the years I have noticed that some of the same ones keep being asked. So I thought I would compile a list of FAQs and responses that should answer the questions you may have…
Answers to your Window Cleaning Questions:
How often should I have my windows cleaned?
The simplistic answer is whenever they are dirty…but the real answer would be at least twice a year. There are times that your windows may not appear dirty enough to have them cleaned, but inside there may be film buildup from cooking, fireplace smoke, or cigarette smoke, and outside you may not see it, but there can be dust, dirt, insects or pollen.
Why do my windows appear foggy?
Most likely it is because you have double-paned windows whose seal is broken. When a window seal breaks, the gas between the two panes leaks out, and moisture leaks in which causes the fogginess between the glass. Certainly we can clean your windows, but that will not remove the fog. To get rid of the fogginess you will need to have the window replaced. Before you do, check to see if your windows could possibly be under warranty.
What tools do you use to clean with?
I don’t use bottled window cleaners and paper towels…I use professional cleaning equipment and solution to give your windows the best streak-free clean possible.
Is there something I need to do to prepare for before you come?
If there are pieces of furniture in front of a window, I can help get that moved, but if you have some small things on or near the window sill, it would be very helpful if you would move them…not only will this protect them, but it will help get the job done more efficiently.
How long will it take to clean my windows?
This isn’t a question I can answer without knowing such things as:
-
- How many windows you have?
- Do you want both inside and outside cleaned?
- Do you have high windows that will require a ladder?
- Do have screens you’d like cleaned?
Is it more expensive to have windows cleaned that are stained from hard water?
Unfortunately the answer is yes…the process to get those window clean simply takes longer.
Will I have clean up to do after you have gone?
Aside from putting your personal items back on the windowsill…No. Because your windows will be clean, I will leave your home cleaner than I found it.
Will you give me a quote before you come to clean?
Absolutely!
I have been cleaning windows in the Seattle area for nearly 30 years, and quite frankly, I enjoy it! I will be happy to answer all of your questions, and I know the mistakes to avoid. I clean private homes or apartment complexes.
